Thank God this was only one volume. Was it bad? No. Did I like it? No.
For some dumbass reason I was looking forward to this one and that was my first mistake. We hit the ground running with sex scenes which…I can’t exactly explain why, but they weren’t sexy. And since I had no clue who the characters were, jumping into the sex scene meant absolutely nothing to me.
And unfortunately by the end of the book, I still didn’t care about the characters and the sex scenes still meant nothing to me.
I get people have *~*trauma*~* and that we need something to drive the plot, but our cocky yet insecure Zhou Qichen (yeah I had to look it up because I still didn’t remember his name after a whole book) just got annoying. Like, dude, how many times are you going to run away from the one person who loves you. Meanwhile poor Lang Feng had to do some seriously heavy lifting and, boy, was there a LOT of really…conversationy conversation. “Just communicate!” Oh they did. It felt like a therapist wrote this and I don’t mean that as a compliment.
It was very bland and repetitive. That said, I can see why some people like it. Maybe to them the characters are lovable and endearingly pathetic “broken” and the sex scenes are spicy. But even if they hadn’t been written in British-English (sorry, Brits, but ‘the curve of his arse’ just isn’t sexy at all, I snort every time) I think they still would’ve read very “clinically.” Anyway, if you liked it, great.
I didn’t.
